44. Maryam

1.     Kaf, Ha, Ya, Ain, Sad.

2.     This is a mention of the mercy of your God to his servant Zechariah.

3.     When he called to his God with a secret voice and,

4.     said: ‘My God, here I am before you. My bones have weakened. My head is ablaze with white flames from old age. But in my invocations/calls/prayers/requests to You, I have never been miserable/in favor of hardship and violence.

5.     I fear the successors after me, and my wife is infertile. So, give me a friend from yourself,

6.     who will be an heir to me and to the dynasty of Jacob. And make him a servant pleasing to my God.’

7.     Oh Zechariah! Indeed, we are giving you glad tidings of a boy, his name Yohanan, we have not made anyone his namesake before.

8.     He said: ‘My God, how could I have a boy while my wife is barren, and I truly reached the highest step of age.’

9.     ‘It is like this,’ He said. Your God said: ‘This is easy for Me. After all, before, I created you, too, when you were nothing.’

10.  He said: ‘My God, give me a sign.’ He answered: ‘Your sign is that, even though you are in perfect health, you will not speak to people for three nights.’

11.  Then, Zechariah left the praying place, mingled among his people and signaled them to praise in the morning and in the evening.

12.  ‘Oh, Yohanan! Hold the Book with strength.’ And we gave him wisdom/profundity/hidden cause/reason/mystery when he yet was a child.

13.  From us, we gave him an affection, a purity. He was one to be careful/cautious/to be wary/to refrain.

14.  He was dutiful to his parents; he was not a disobedient tyrant.

15.  Peace be upon him, the day he was born, the day he’ll die and the day he will be raised alive.

16.  Also, mention Maryam in the Book. When she withdrew from her family and went to a place in the east.

17.  She pulled a veil between them and herself. And we sent our Spirit to her, and it appeared to her in the form of a well-proportioned human.

18.  Maryam said: ‘I seek refuge from you with the Endlessly Merciful. If you are a careful/cautious/wary/refraining person, be careful.’

19.  The Spirit said: ‘I am only a messenger of your God. I am here to grant you a pure son.’

20.  She said: ‘How can I have a son; no human has touched me. And I am not engaging in sexual activity.’

21.  He said: ‘It is like this!’ Your God said: ‘It is easy for Me. Like this, we will make him a sign/wonder/verse and a blessing from us for mankind. And this is a decreed matter.’

22.  She became pregnant with him. Afterwards, she withdrew with him to a remote place.

23.  Finally, the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said: ‘Oh, I wish I had died before this, I wish I had vanished into oblivion.’

24.  From beneath her, he cried to her: ‘Do not grieve, verily, beneath you your God has brought a stream into being.

25.  Shake the trunk of the palm tree towards yourself, it will drop ripe, fresh dates upon you.

26.  Now eat, drink. May your eye be comforted/enlightened. If you see a human, say: ‘I have vowed a fast to the Endlessly Merciful, that’s why I will not talk to any human today.

27.  Then she carried him to her people. ‘Oh, Maryam,’ they said. ‘You have done a perplexing thing!’

28.  ‘Oh, Aaron’s sister! Your father wasn’t a bad man. And your mother wasn’t a whore.’

29.  Maryam pointed at him. They said: ‘How can we speak to a child in a cradle?’

30.  The child said: ‘I am God’s servant. He gave me a Book; He made me a prophet.’

31.  ‘He made me blessed and fruitful wherever I am. And has suggested prayer and donation of unneeded wealth, as long as I am alive.’

32.  ‘He suggested me to be dutiful to my mother. He didn’t make me a bullying tyrant.’

33.  ‘Peace be upon me, the day I was born, the day I’ll die and the day I will be raised alive.’

34.  This is Maryam’s son Yeshua! A statement of Truth which they disagree about.

35.  Begetting a son is not for God. His Splendour is supreme. When He decides on a matter and being, He only says ‘Be,’ and it will immediately be.

36.  Without a doubt, God is both my God and your God as well. So then, be devoted to Him. This is the straight path.

37.  The sects that emerged, fell into conflict among themselves. Woe to those deniers from witnessing a great Day.

38.  What will they hear, what will they see when they come to us! But today, those cruels are in a clear error.

39.  Warn them about that Day of yearning/longing/regret. While they are unaware, and while they do not believe, the case will be decided.

40.  Indeed, we will inherit the Earth and whoever is on it. And to us they will be returned.

41.  Also, mention Abram in the Book. He was a prophet, a man of truth.

42.  When he said to his father: ‘My father, why do you serve things that don’t hear, don’t see, nor bring you any benefit?’

43.  ‘My father, there came something to me from the knowledge that did not come to you. Therefore, comply with me so I can guide you to the straight path.’

44.  ‘My father, don’t serve the devil/the astray/distant/corrupt/rebellious/insolent/obstructing/opposing. Because the devil/the astray/distant/corrupt/rebellious/insolent/obstructing/opposing has rebelled against the Endlessly Merciful.’

45.  ‘My father, I fear that you will be touched by a suffering from the Endlessly Merciful, so you will become a friend of the devil/the astray/distant/corrupt/rebellious/insolent/obstructing/opposing.’

46.  His father said: ‘Do you turn away from my gods, Abram? If you don’t stop this business, I will stone you! Stay away from me for a long time!’

47.  He said: ‘Peace be upon you. I will ask my God for forgiveness for you. Because He is very gracious towards me.’

48.  ‘I leave you and what you call/beg to/invoke besides God. And I will call/beg to/invoke my God. I hope that I will not be unblessed in my calling/begging/invocation.’

49.  When Abram parted from them and what they called/begged to/invoked besides God, we granted him Yishaq and Jacob, and we made them all prophets.

50.  We gave them blessings from our mercy. And we made for them a very truthful tongue.

51.  Also, mention Moshe in the Book. Because he was chosen/brought to sincerity and honesty, and he was a messenger, a prophet.

52.  We called him from the right side of Mount Sinai. We brought him near to whispering distance.

53.  From our mercy we gifted him his brother Aharon as a prophet.

54.  Also, mention Yishmael in the Book. Because he was true to his promise; he was a messenger, a prophet.

55.  He encouraged his family/his people to pray and donate unneeded wealth. He was near his God, pleasing.

56.  Also, mention Idris in the Book. Because he was a truthful person/a person whose words and essence matched completely, a prophet.

57.  We raised him to a high place.

58.  These are the prophets God has favored with blessing: From the descendants of Adam, and from those we carried with Noah, and from the descendants of Abram and Yisrael, and from those we guided and chose. When the signs/wonders/verses were read to them, they would fall in prostration, crying.

59.  But after them there came such a generation: they lost prayer, they followed lust. These will find the punishment of their going beyond limits.

60.  Except for those who ask for forgiveness and do/produce things for good and peace. These will enter heavenly gardens and will not be wronged in any way.

61.  They will enter the gardens of Eden which the Endlessly Merciful promised His servants in the unseen. Without a doubt, His promise will be fulfilled.

62.  There they will not hear vain talk, only ‘peace’. There, their provisions are ready for them, morning and evening.

63.  This is the heavenly garden that we will give as an inheritance to our careful/cautious/wary/refraining servants.

64.  We only bring down the command of your God/descend with the command of your God. What is in front of us, behind us and in between these, all belongs to Him. Your God is not forgetful.

65.  He is the God of the heavens, the Earth and everything in between. Be devoted to Him and be patient in your devotion. Do you know anyone who can be His namesake?

66.  The human says: ‘What?! I will be brought forth alive when I’m dead?’

67.  Doesn’t the human remember that we created him when he before was nothing?

68.  By your God, we will gather both them and the devils/the astrays/distants/corrupts/rebellious/insolents/obstructing/opposing, and we will have them ready waiting around hell, bent on their knees.

69.  Then from each group, we will separate the ones who are more brutal in opposing against the Endlessly Merciful.

70.  Surely, we know better than anyone which ones are more worthy to enter it.

71.  There is no one of you that will not visit it. This is an inevitable decree of your God.

72.  Then, we will save the careful/cautious/wary/refraining ones. And we will leave the cruel ones there, bent on their knees.

73.  When our signs/wonders/verses are read to them openly, the deniers will say to the believers: ‘Which of the two groups is superior in rank, more beautiful in gathering?’

74.  We destroyed many generations before them, who were more attractive in wealth and appearance.

75.  Say: ‘For whoever is astray, the Endlessly Merciful will surely extend an extension, until they see what they were promised, suffering or the Hour. Then they will know who the worst in position is, and who is on the weaker side.

76.  God will increase the guidance of those who are on the right path. With your God, businesses that are intended for peace and doing/producing good are better in reward and result.

77.  Have you seen the one who denies our signs/wonders/verses and says: ‘Surely I will be given wealth and children.’

78.  Has he learned about the unseen? Or did he receive a promise from the Endlessly Merciful?

79.  No, no! We will record his words and keep on extending his suffering.

80.  We will be the inheritors of what he mentions. He will come to us by himself.

81.  They have taken gods besides God, that they may give them honor and support.

82.  No, no! They will deny their worship and they will be their opponents.

83.  Haven’t you seen, we have unleashed demons on the deniers, making them dance and wriggle?

84.  Don’t be hasty about them. We are counting the days for them one by one.

85.  There will come a day that we will gather the careful/cautious/wary/refraining ones as a delegation in front of the Endlessly Merciful.

86.  And we will drive the criminals to hell, thirsty and on foot.

87.  No one can receive a mediation, except for the one who received a promise from the Endlessly Merciful.

88.  ‘The Endlessly Merciful has taken a son,’ they said.

89.  I swear that you are making a very ugly statement.

90.  Because of these words, the sky will almost crack, the Earth will almost break apart, the mountains will almost collapse.

91.  Because they are claiming the Endlessly Merciful has gotten a son.

92.  It does not suit the Endlessly Merciful to get a son.

93.  Everyone in the heavens and on the Earth will come to the Endlessly Merciful as servants.

94.  I swear, He has besieged them all and has counted them all one by one.

95.  And they will all come to Him on the Day of resurrection, one by one.

96.  As for the believers that are doing/producing things for good and peace, the Endlessly Merciful will create a love.

97.  We have made it easy with your tongue so you can give glad tidings with it to the ones that are careful/cautious/wary/refraining, and so you can warn a stubborn/hostile people with it.

98.  We have destroyed many generations before them. Can you perceive/feel any of them, or can you hear any of their groans?
